In collaboration with Queen Margaret University, St. Columba’s Hospice runs degree and Masters level specialist palliative care modules within the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework and towards the above programmes. One module from each programme is run per semester, a total of usually 4 modules each academic year. We are seeking an External Examiner for these modules. In addition there is a requirement to examine the Dissertation Project completed by students remaining on the MSc in Palliative Care, a programme currently being run out following revalidation of the Masters programme in 2016, and the Dissertation Project completed by students doing the MSc Person-centred Practice (Palliative Care).

The External Examiner is expected to oversee the quality of modules, attend Examination Boards and meet with students on the programme. It is also expected that an annual report will be produced that will contribute to the Quality Enhancement process.

As an applicant you are required to have:

  • Relevant academic expertise and experience in palliative care
  • A Masters degree in palliative care or related PhD
  • Current employment within a UK university or employment in an organisation with a collaborative partnership with a UK university
  • No formal links with Queen Margaret University in the last five years
