Closing Date:
8 Aug 2021
Salary Range:

The University of Bedfordshire, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint two external examiners for their three year Pre-Registration Midwifery UG (Apprenticeship) course and the Pre-registration Midwifery second registration course.

These are full-time courses which extend over a period of 3 academic years (UG) and 2 years (PG). The courses adopt a work-integrated approach to learning which facilitates the application of theoretical learning within the workplace. Learners attend university one/two days a week and engage in work-based learning activities in a midwifery practice setting for the remainder of the time.

We are keen to recruit academics with NMC Midwifery qualification and live registration with the NMC.

Whilst external examiner experience is desirable, we also welcome expressions of interest from individuals new to this role.

The successful candidates will be offered an induction programme and will be supported throughout the duration of their tenure.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend approximately 3 academic boards per year. They will also be invited to observe practical assessments (such as OSCEs) and visit learners within practice areas. The specific remit includes review of units at academic level 4-6 contributing to the above undergraduate award and Level 7 for the postgraduate award.

The term of office for the successful candidate will be for a period of 4 years.

For the undergraduate programme this will commence from September 2021 and the postgraduate programme from September 2022.

Please note that all External Examiner appointments are subject to approval by the University’s External Examiner Committee
