The University of Worcester is seeking to appoint two external examiners for: the Pre-registration BSc (Hons) Midwifery 3 year programme and two MSc modules (Newborn Infant Physical Examination and Professional Midwifery Advocate modules) within the Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice programme (MACP).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced academic staff. Previous experience of undertaking an External Examiner role is desirable. The successful applicant must be registered on the appropriate part of the NMC register and have relevant experience of working in midwifery as well as teaching on midwifery programmes.

The University of Worcester offers support for external examiners and a full induction day. Further support is also provided by the Programme leader and module team.
The appointment will be from September 2019 to December 2023.

The successful candidates will be invited to an external examiner induction day in January 2020. The majority of assessments can be reviewed remotely. The Exam board for the pre-registration midwifery programme meets twice a year, as there are two cohorts per annum. The Exam Board for MACP meets twice a year. You will be required to view a selection of scripts for designated modules and complete a module external examiner report for each set of assignments reviewed. At the end of the academic year, an annual report is required.

Applicants are advised that the University applies the following criteria to external examiners:

  • The area of expertise of external examiners is within the area of assessment undertaken;
  • Applicants should normally be employed within a university setting (or have recently been employed in such a setting);
  • Applicants must not have been a University of Worcester external examiner within the last five years, nor should any other colleagues been appointed as EE at the University within the same time period
