The School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership at the University of Bradford is looking to recruit a suite of new External Examiners to cover its suite of pre-registration nursing programmes.
The programmes that need External Examiners are:
- BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) x2
- BSc (Hons) Nursing (Children’s)
- BSc (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health)
- MNurse Adult and Mental Health (Dual field)/ MNurse Children’s and Mental Health (Dual field)
The School is seeking to appoint five External Examiners from across the parts of the register. Applications are welcomed from single and dual registered nurses. The appointment is due to commence immediately. The programme jointly recruits a total of around 350-400 students across Adult, Mental Health and Child fields annually across the City Campus and a satellite site. The new external examiners will work in a team with the other External Examiners. The annual fee payment for each external examiner is £1,495.00 based on current numbers and portfolio coverage.
You should have appropriate expertise/experience and a background in the relevant field of nursing, registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register and evidence of scholarly activity. The applicant should be able to undertake a role in the assurance of academic standards in Higher Education and should be aware of modern developments in the design and delivery of the flexible curriculum. The MNurse external examiner should have dual registration as an Adult nurse and either Children’s nurse or Mental Health nurse.
You should not hold more than one other UK Higher Education External Examiner post at the start of the contract and be qualified to at least the level of the programme to be examined.

Overview of your role includes:
Confirming the comparability of standards of student performance at University of Bradford with those of similar modules at other UK Institutions of Higher Education; confirming that the assessment process in its entirety is sound, and has been fairly conducted with full regard to justice to students; reporting and advising on the above by means of approving coursework and examination papers and providing an annual report to the University.
The appointee will be required to moderate a sample of work and you will also be required to produce an annual report and attend Boards of Examiners as appropriate. The opportunity to meet with students and review practice will also be provided.
The tenure of appointment is for a four-year period, starting on immediately until 30 September 2028.
External Examiners’ fees for taught programmes are calculated according to a formula that takes into account both programme and module responsibilities, fees for these appointments would vary due to the student number on each of the fields.
