The Department for Pre-Qualifying Practice has an exciting opportunity for an individual who can demonstrate expert subject knowledge aligned to the Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care (FdSc) Nursing Associate programme to join the team as a Lecturer. We are a motivated, supportive, and friendly team who are fully committed to pursuing excellence to enhance employability for our Trainee Nursing Associates by providing learner experiences that are inclusive, practice led, and evidence based.

The two-year FdSc Nursing Associate programme was developed to support the introduction of a new nursing role and is a work-based learning course aimed at experienced Health Care Assistants and new to care learners who want to develop themselves to become a Registered Nursing Associate (NAR). We are advocates of the Registered Nursing Associate role and take every opportunity to highlight how the role is an essential part of the ever-evolving healthcare workforce.

We are the largest provider of the FdSC Nursing Associate programme nationally and a flagship apprenticeship programme for the University. The team have a reputation for delivering a programme that is learner centred and employer led as well as providing innovative, educational opportunities within a professional and supportive environment.

As a Lecturer within the team you will:

  • Work flexibly, contributing to innovative teaching, learning and assessment methods to support a high quality trainee Nursing Associate experiences
  • As module leader or deputy module lead, co-ordinate with others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure learner needs and expectations are met
  • Undertake the academic assessor role and provide guidance and support to learners and the practice supervisors/ assessors
  • Engage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge

All applicants must:

  • Hold current registration with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) as a registered Nurse (Part 1)
  • Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge
  • Demonstrate understanding of Apprenticeships, IFATE (Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education), OFSTED and NMC requirements
  • Demonstrate relevant and current experience of supporting undergraduate students/trainees/ apprentices in clinical and educational or higher education settings
  • Hold at least a First Degree in a health related subject with a commitment to achieving a Master’s degree
  • Provide evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Previous teaching experience in a Higher Education setting would be desirable, however, successful applicants will be fully funded and supported through our own Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA) including full support for study attendance and the allocation of a dedicated APA mentor to provide support to achieve the learning requirements.
