The School of Health Sciences, in the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, is looking to appoint External Examiners for our pre-registration nursing programmes.

The University of Southampton is a global leader for nursing, where students are supported by world-class educators and researchers.

We deliver programmes leading to registration as a single field nurse at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as a 2, 3 and 4 year programme. The 4-year Programme confers registration in two fields of nursing. Our programmes benefit from shared teaching and joint modules across programmes. Therefore, we are looking to appoint External Examiners who have experience of education at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and who enjoy working at all academic levels. Previous experience as an External Examiner is desirable but not essential, as mentoring can be provided where necessary. Applications are invited from academics who have appropriate NMC registration, expertise and experience to maintain comparability standards.

Examination Boards take place twice a year. Fees and Expenses are payable in line with the University’s External Examiners policy.

We have the following External Examiner roles available:

  • Undergraduate Adult Nursing
  • Postgraduate Adult Nursing
  • Postgraduate Child Nursing
  • Postgraduate Mental Health Nursing

The appointments commence on 3 January 2023. For further information about the role, please do not hesitate to contact Ellen Kitson-Reynolds, Director of Programmes, by emailing E.Kitson-Reynolds@soton.ac.uk. If you would like to apply for the role, please send your expression of interest and Curriculum Vitae to the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, Curriculum and Quality Assurance Team at fels-cqa@soton.ac.uk and ensure to include the role you are applying for.

Closing date for receipt of applications: 2 December 2022.
