The School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Worcester is seeking an External Examiner for modules within the new PGCert Enhanced Clinical Practice (ECP) Programme.

The PGCert ECP has been designed on the principles of enhanced level practice (HEE 2022) https://www.hee.nhs.uk/sites/default/files/documents/The%20Principles%20of%20Enhanced%20Level%20Practice.pdf, incorporating the 4 pillars of advanced practiced and has been mapped against the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship standard ST0895, https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/st0895-v1-1, although not approved as an apprenticeship at this time. The delivery model takes a highly blended teaching and learning approach, with a work-based learning component to meet the needs of professionals balancing work and studying towards this award.

The course aims to attract applicants across a range of professional groups including nurses and allied health professionals. The External Examiner is therefore required to be a registered Nurse, Midwife (Nursing and Midwifery Council) or Allied Health Professional (Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

In addition, this post requires the External Examiner to have substantial experience in teaching or leading on healthcare Master’s (or equivalent) programmes. The university requires the External Examiners to hold the relevant qualifications at least equal to the programme being examined as listed below:

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant subject
  • Experience and evidence of working and teaching at Enhanced/ Advanced Clinical Practitioner
  • Applicants should have recently been employed (or are still employed) within a university appointment.

Applicants must not have been a University of
Worcester external examiner within the last five years.

The University of Worcester offers support for External Examiners and a full induction day. If new to the role support and mentorship will be provided.

Further support is also provided by the Course leader and module team. The University normally expects External Examiners to attend a minimum of one examination board per year.
