The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare is seeking to appoint an external examiner for our B. Social Work (Hons) programme. The modules cover, non-exhaustively,

  • Social Work with Adults / Children
  • Social Policy / Law
  • Research

Interested applicants should ideally have experience of external examining in at least one other Higher Education Institution. However, UWL would consider providing a mentor for the right applicant who does not have experience in the EE role (All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment). The closing date for expressions of interest is June 30, 2023.

The appointment will be starting with immediate effect. The tenure will normally be for a period of four years.

The assessment boards are all held on our Brentford campus*.

As an External Examiner you must be:

  • a qualified social worker.
  • registered with Social Work England
  • employed in Higher Education – have experience teaching and assessing at levels 4, 5, 6 & 7.

The role requires the External Examiner to:

  • moderate samples of examination/essay scripts and other assessed materials, advising Assessment Boards on the content and standard of assessments.
  • attend a minimum of 2 assessment boards a year, which are held on our Brentford campus*.
  • review new modules in preparation for (re)validation.
  • submit an annual report to the University Quality Boards.

*Currently, all meetings – including assessment boards and annual reviews, are conducted virtually using Microsoft Teams.
