The Department of Health Sciences at the University of York is a large and multidisciplinary department, offering a broad range of educational programmes in the health and social care field. We are seeking to appoint an external examiner for the MSc Mental Health Research programme.
The MSc Mental Health Research is an applied health research programme, run jointly by the Department of Health Sciences and Hull York Medical School. The programme includes two core subject specific modules: Theory, Research and Treatment of Mental Health Problems and Principles of Mental Health Research, alongside which students will undertake a range of core and optional research methods training. Students will consolidate their knowledge and skills by undertaking an independent research project in their final semester. Students will graduate with the ability to critically engage with the evidence base relating to mental health research and practice, and with the skills to undertake mental health research across clinical and academic settings.
External examiners are required to review and evaluate assessment marking; be a member of the Board of Examiners and attend meetings; comment and give advice on programme content, balance and structure; and to complete an annual report as part of the University of York’s quality assurance mechanisms. The University requires external examiners to attend a minimum of one Board of Examiners meeting per year.
All appointments are subject to meeting the University’s criteria for the appointment of external examiners.
The successful applicant would be appointed with effect from October 2023 for a term of four academic years.
