The Three Counties School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Worcester is seeking an External Examiner (EE) for modules within MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Programme, apprenticeship and traditional routes, which includes the NMC/HCPC approved independent and supplementary prescribing module. Independent and supplementary prescribing is also studied by students (Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals) as an individual course (V300).

The MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship route is an integrated degree apprenticeship and the University of Worcester is a listed as a Registered Apprenticeship Training Provider (RoATP) to facilitate the independent End Point Assessment (EPA). The EE will therefore also be required to contribute to the quality assurance of the EPA grading. The courses attract applicants across a range of professional groups including nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, paramedics, and pharmacists. The EE is therefore required to be a registered Nurse, Midwife (Nursing and Midwifery Council) or Allied Health Professional (Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

In addition, this post requires the EE to have substantial experience in teaching or leading on healthcare Master’s programmes and the university requires the EE to hold the relevant qualifications at least equal to the programme being examined as listed below:

  • A Master’s degree in relevant subject
  • A prescribing or independent and supplementary prescribing qualification
  • Experience in Advanced Clinical Practice and Apprenticeships to oversee the End Point Assessment (EPA) is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Applicants should have recently been employed (or are still employed) within a university appointment.
  • Applicants must not have been a University of Worcester examiner within the last five years.

The University of Worcester offers support for External Examiners and a full induction day. Applications are welcomed from experienced external examiners as well as novice to the role. If new to the role support and mentorship will be provided.

Further support is also provided by the Course leader and module team. The University normally expects External Examiners to attend a minimum of one examination board per year.
