University of Derby, College of Health, Psychology and Social Care is seeking to engage an External Examiner for the new BSc Hons Physiotherapy course with effect from September 2024. As this is a new programme, the successful candidate will be responsible for two modules in the first semester. The focus will be on the fundamentals of physiotherapy practice and Principles of professional skills and practice, level 4. Further module responsibility will develop as the programme develops, expanding into all aspects of Physiotherapy practice.

Principle duties normally include;

  • Review and approve assessment strategies and guidance that contribute to a student’s final award, and any other assessment material as agreed;
  • Moderate assessed coursework and examination scripts;
  • Attend module assessment boards;
  • Produce an Annual External Examiners Report, aligned to University requirements;
  • External Examiners may be invited to engage with students in practice;
  • They will have an established background in the teaching of Physiotherapy at undergraduate level and desirably experience of Higher Education quality processes.
  • External Examiners may also be requested to advise on proposed amendments to the programme or programmes leading to the award for which they are responsible, and to comment on new short courses and learning contracts which fall within their area of subject expertise.
  • They are expected to advise on curriculum development and design so as to ensure currency, relevance and coherence of curricular material.
