External Examiner – Clinical and Health Research (MRes)

We are seeking to External Examiners for our Clinical and Health Research (MRes) and (iPhD), and Doctorate in Clinical Practice (DClinP) programmes.

The MRes affords students the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed to work in all aspects of clinical, healthcare or academic research. The Programme adopts a broad definition of clinical and health research that encompasses clinical trials, translational research, epidemiological studies, public health, management of diseases and conditions and health services research. The Programme consist of modules designed to provide a methodological foundation of quantitative and qualitative approaches, as well as practical knowledge of designing and conducting research in healthcare contexts, equipping students to undertake an independent empirical research project.

External Examiners are typically appointed for a period of four years. Principle duties normally include:

  • Visit the University at the least once a year to moderate assessed coursework and examination scripts, attend Board of Examiners meeting (may be virtual)
  • Produce an Annual Report
  • Review and approve examination papers that contribute to a student’s final award, and any other assessment material as agreed

This post will be with effect from 1 October 2021.

Applicants should hold appropriate academic qualifications; preferably have previous experience of acting in the role as an External Examiner and have a background in a range of health or health-related research methods. Fees and Expenses are payable in line with the University’s External Examiners policy.
