We are seeking a replacement external examiner from the 2024-25 academic year for our four year, part-time, pre-registration BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course and Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship. These two popular courses largely share delivery, using problem-based learning pedagogy. The vacancy arises as one of our current external examiners is approaching the end of their four-year term.
The University of Brighton offers extensive support for external examiners and holds workshops annually. Further support is also provided by the Course leader and the Subject Lead for the Health and Rehabilitation Subject Area, in which Occupational Therapy sits. The University normally expects external examiners to attend a minimum of one examination board per year, typically the summer board in June.
The role would involve being an external examiner across a range of Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 academic and practice placement modules, working alongside the current external examiner (who by September 24 will be in the third year of their four-year term). It is desirable for applicants to have some understanding or experience of problem-based learning and/or part-time course teaching/ leadership and/ or apprenticeships, but this is not essential.
Applicants are advised that the University applies the following criteria to external examiners:
- The area of expertise of external examiners must be within the area of examinations undertaken;
- They should have recently been employed (or still be employed) within a university appointment;
- They must not have been a University of Brighton examiner within the last five years;
- They will have a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification and be Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered.
One External Examiner is sought for the part-time, 4 year, pre-registration BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course and Degree Apprenticeship.
Commencement date September 2024 for a period of 4 years
