The School of Healthcare is seeking an external examiner for its 3 year pre-registration mental health nursing programme. This is a full time programme with a variable intake of between 40-45 students. The role includes responsibility for a number of field specific modules and some cross nursing modules.
We are seeking to appoint an individual who has a master’s degree (and ideally has or be working towards a PhD); a strong background in pre-registration education; current registration with the NMC as a mental health nurse; is working within a Higher Education Institution; and preferably has a proven record of accomplishment in publishing and scholarly activity.
The tenure of appointment is for a period of one year in the first instance, normally followed by a further three year period. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The School holds an annual induction event for new external examiners to familiarise them with the University’s assessment process and to enable them to meet the programme team.
There is a two tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year (preferably the September board) and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.
The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
