An External Examiner is required for biomedical life science courses on the BN (Hons) programme at the Nursing and Health Care School, University of Glasgow. We are part of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS). For further information regarding the College, please visit www.gla.ac.uk/colleges/mvls

We offer an Honours (four years) degree, leading to NMC Registration in Adult Nursing and we are consistently ranked amongst the top schools for nursing in UK university league tables.

We have access to excellent facilities and a wide range of world-renowned experts in their subjects. The BN (Hons) programme is firmly underpinned with biomedical life sciences that build incrementally to inform knowledge and understanding of the biological basis of human disease and its relevance to nursing theory and person-centred care.

The ideal candidate would have undergraduate nursing programme experience with direct experience of teaching and assessing in biomedical life sciences, and previous experience of external examining. The candidate should have current adult registration with the NMC, and a teaching qualification. Possession of a Masters/Honours degree is essential. Degree level study in biomedical life sciences is desirable.

The appointment will be for four years, from October 2021 and will cover Biomedical Life Sciences courses in Years 1 and 2 and the Principles of Human Disease and Pharmacotherapy course in Year 3. Appointments are subject to the University Senate’s criteria for external examiners.

The commitment required is normally as follows:

  • Review and moderation of a range of coursework and assessments throughout the year.
  • Submission of an External Examiner’s Annual Report.
  • Membership and attendance at Boards of Examiners.
  • Collaboration with the BN team to inform the continued monitoring, review, and enhancement of these courses.
