External Examiner – Advanced Certificate in Palliative Care Practice

The School of Health, Social Work and Sport at the University of Central Lancashire is currently seeking to appoint an External Examiner for the Advanced Certificate in Palliative Care Practice and a suite of level 6 and level 7 specialist modules (listed below) starting October 2023 for a period of 4 years.

Advanced Certificate in Palliative Care Practice:

  • Palliative care Practice
  • Developing Palliative care practice

Specialist modules:

  • Managing Cancer
  • Managing cancer – developing practice
  • Acute Oncology
  • Care management at End of life
  • Advancing Care Management at the End of Life
  • Principles of safe and compassionate SACT (systemic anti-cancer treatment) delivery
  • Principles of safe and compassionate SACT (systemic anti-cancer treatment) delivery – advancing care provision

Core responsibilities:
External examiner responsibilities include external moderation of assessments and completion of an annual report in addition to attendance at an annual examination board (1 per year) where final awards are made to help to ensure that those recommendations have been reached by fair means according to the University’s requirements and normal practice in higher education in the United Kingdom. Remote attendance via online platforms is acceptable.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in the area of Palliative Care Practice. Previous experience as an external examiner is preferred but not essential.

There is an approval process independent of the course team which will also ensure there are no conflicts of interest. A right-to-work in the UK check will also be completed. Fees and Expenses are payable in line with the University policy:

The fee for the External Examiner role for an Advanced Certificate will be £150 paid upon submission of an annual report. The fee for the External Examiner role for the specialist modules will be £280 paid upon submission of an annual report.
