University of Derby School Health, Psychology and Social Care are seeking to appoint an End Point Assessment (EPA) independent assessor for the Advanced Clinical Practice apprenticeship programme at Level 7. The role of an Independent Assessor (IA) is to independently and impartially assess whether an apprentice has gained the required Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour (KSBs) needed to successfully complete their apprenticeship.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Prepare assessment materials and associated guidance for apprentices and employers completing the EPA assessment.
  • Independently assess the two EPA assessment components, determining the individual and final apprenticeship grade:
    • EPA part 1 – Open Book Examination
    • EPA part 2 – Presentation of practice
  • Chairing the presentation panel for EPA part 2
  • Provide detailed and appropriate feedback to students
  • Attending the assessment boards to confirm EPA decisions
  • Provide accurate, well-informed assessment feedback and written reports to validate assessment grading decisions
  • Actively participate in moderation, standardisation and development activities meetings, ensuring quality assurance procedures are maintained.

The criteria for appointment include:

  • Occupational knowledge of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner role with a minimum of three years experience working within a clinical or academic setting
  • Current professional healthcare registration
  • Hold a Masters Degree
  • A minimum of three years in assessment judgements at Masters level

Previous experience as an EPA assessor is desirable, but not essential.

The EPA Assessor will be employed by specialist apprenticeship bodies known as End-Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs), who will play a leading role in the training and support.
