Applications are invited for a Clinical Academic Fellow in Sonography. You will have a relevant postgraduate qualification, and recent clinical experience in advanced diagnostic ultrasound, along with sound wider knowledge of diagnostic radiography. This role includes teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and it will be essential for your postgraduate qualification to be either an MSc or PgD Medical Ultrasound (or equivalent) that includes obstetric, pelvic and general medical ultrasound. Some experience of musculoskeletal ultrasound, including hernias and lumps & bumps, is also desirable.

The Role

As a Clinical Academic Fellow in Sonography, you will use your previous teaching, or high-quality practice experience as a radiographer-sonographer, to deliver specialist and generalist knowledge, and skills to students at all HE levels. You will use different learning and teaching methods, sensitive to different cultures and students’ ways of learning. Although for most of the time you will teach our Diagnostic Imaging students, interprofessional education is a key part of our learning and teaching approach and you will teach students from other professions. Using contemporary evidence, you will prepare students for future clinical practice which supports embedding research into practice for patient benefit. Your level of appointment will be in line with your previous experience and the University will offer you career development opportunities.

You will work within an established small team of academic staff and will contribute to enhancing the work and the reputation of the School as a whole, collaborating interprofessionally and effectively with colleagues in the Faculty, University and externally as appropriate. You will undertake scholarly activity, maintain or work towards being research active and contribute to the School’s enterprise and innovation within the UK and internationally. The nature of this contribution will vary according to your experience and your direction of work will be required to fit with the School’s strategic plans.

Requirements

You will hold a current registration with the UK HCPC as a diagnostic radiographer, a BSc Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent) and a PgD Medical Ultrasound (or equivalent).
