Four-year tenured appointment as Associate Dean
This is a substantive post as an Academic Manager in the School of Health and Social Work. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Associate Dean – Learning, Teaching and Student Experience on a four-year renewable basis, subject to performance. There is no guarantee that this appointment will be extended or renewed beyond the four-year period and if it is not, the post holder will revert to a role commensurate with current responsibilities and pay.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Associate Dean Learning and Teaching will support the Dean of School, taking delegated responsibility and leadership of a vibrant, effective, and sustainable School culture for enhancing Learning and Teaching. You will ensure that there are continued and effective mechanisms in place for promoting, disseminating and implementing effective learning, teaching and assessment practices throughout the School. In addition to responding to specific metrics, including HSK’s awarding gap strategy, taking a leadership role as appropriate.
You will ensure effective student engagement with feedback mechanisms including the MFQ, NSS and other survey instruments, making effective use of the student feedback, including communicating to students and other stakeholders the actions resulting from the feedback. You will also enable the provision of effective learning, teaching and assessment related staff development opportunities for the School, drawing on its own expertise, the LTI and colleagues elsewhere in the University (as appropriate) and School, inclusive of HSK’s Equality, Wellbeing and Inclusivity Committee.
This position is combined with the substantive academic appointment of the successful post holder and a 0.2 allowance is made in the workload allocation for the discharge of duties. The post holder will also engage in a range of scholarly activities and research in support of the School’s strategic plan.
Skills and experience
You will have knowledge of health-related and social care/work programmes and understanding of the University’s key strategic goals. You will be able to demonstrate proven management and leadership skills in learning and teaching related activities and the ability to work successfully with a multi-disciplinary team of staff. You will also be able to demonstrate proven ability to build successful working relationships across the University and with external organisations, regarding supporting and enabling student voice with key responsibility for identifying and responding to student issues.
Qualifications required
You will hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent level 7 qualification), in a relevant subject area and have current registration with a health regulator (HCPC, NMC etc). Having obtained or working towards a PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in a relevant subject area is desirable.
