The Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute is an integral part of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing at the University of Sunderland, supporting the development of applied research and knowledge exchange within health and care settings. The Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute has four strategic research and knowledge exchange programmes of Health Services Research, Health Inequalities, Nursing. The strategic programmes are underpinned by four workstreams Out of Hospital Care, Military and Veteran Health and Wellbeing, Obesity and Bariatric Surgical Care and Women’s Health.

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences is the largest School within the University, encompassing academic staff across undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals programmes including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic and Physiotherapy.
As part of our approach to interdisciplinary research, the Institute works closely with the School of Psychology, drawing on the knowledge and expertise of our Psychology colleagues.

The Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute has a pivotal role to play in our School and Faculty’s ambitious growth plans.
We have an exciting opportunity for an ARC Research Fellow to join the Institute on a full-time, fixed term 3-year contract aligned to the ARC Multimorbidity, Ageing and Frailty (MMAF) Theme. The role will be based in the Institute but will also work collaboratively with colleagues in the School of Psychology aligned to the ARC MMAF theme.
The post-holder is required to hold a PhD or equivalent, have demonstrable expertise and experience in applied health research focusing on multimorbidity, ageing and frailty, securing external research grant income, leading, and delivering research to time and target, and being able to produce high, quality publications.
