We are proud to have been one of the first optometry schools in the world, having started teaching technical optics in 1898 and delivering full-time courses for optometrists since 1927. Our team comprises academic colleagues from a broad range of disciplines, including; optometry, orthoptics, biology, physics, psychology and mathematics. Our strong and positive relationships with ophthalmology departments and leading optometrists allow us to pull together an outstanding team of academics, visiting clinical tutors and guest lecturers for our programmes.

The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the research and educational activities of the Department of Optometry and Visual Sciences. They will lead individual and collaborative research and contribute significantly to the achievement of the research objectives of the School. They will maintain a national/international profile as a researcher developing and contributing to the work of the Applied Vision Research Centre maintaining academic excellence. They will also support educational development and undergraduate/ postgraduate students.

We are seeking to appoint a fulltime Senior Lecturer or Reader who has a national/international profile as a researcher. The candidate will be responsible for leading research activities building on the achievements and profile of the Department and School. They will lead research through attracting funding and enhancing scholarship to build the achievements and profile of the School and University. They will also demonstrate a track record of published research findings of national and international significance.
