The School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership at the University of Bradford is looking for a dedicated individual to undertake the role of external examiner for our Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) programmes to commence immediately. The PNA programme comprises of a single 15 credit, level 7 module to enable qualified nurses working in a clinical or practice education role, to develop the required skills to act as a professional nurse advocate. The programme aligns to the RCN education standards for PNA and is awaiting confirmation of RCN accreditation.

An overview of your role and responsibilities includes:

Confirming the comparability of standards of student performance at University of Bradford with those of similar modules at other UK Institutions of Higher Education; confirming that the assessment process in its entirety is sound and has been fairly conducted with full regard to justice to students; reporting and advising on the above by means of approving coursework and examination papers and providing an annual report to the University.

The appointee will be required to moderate a sample of work and you will also be required to produce an annual report and attend Boards of Examiners as appropriate.

You should have appropriate expertise/experience in the areas of nursing and ideally with PNA or PMA provision. Preference would be given to applicants currently or recently delivering a PNA programme within an AEI. The successful candidate will hold current NMC registration. The applicant should have an interest in professional advocacy and restorative clinical supervision and service development. The successful applicant must have with experience of postgraduate programmes, leadership modules and clinical supervision. The successful candidate will be able to undertake a role in the assurance of academic standards in Higher Education and should be aware of modern developments in the design and delivery of a postgraduate curriculum.

You should not hold more than one other UK Higher Education External Examiner post at the start of the contract and be qualified to at least the level of the programme to be examined.
External Examiners’ fees for taught programmes are calculated according to a formula that takes into account both programme and module responsibilities.
