The University is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head for the School of Nursing and Midwifery to support the existing bold and strategic leadership of the school. Reporting to the Head of School, this role is responsible for contributing to the formulation and implementation of the academic strategy, ensuring appropriate plans and resources are in place for their delivery.

The Faculty of Health contributes significantly to the University’s activities and it is host to a tremendously diverse range of health and social care professional education programmes. At any one time, 1700 professionals are typically in training across numerous programmes in three schools. You will be an established leader in your field and have considerable academic and personal credibility in a relevant discipline, as well as a commitment to working collaboratively and in partnership with staff and students across the School, Faculty, and more widely. Strong leadership and management experience is important, as is an ability to engage staff, peers, and students through collaborative work to continue to deliver excellent results. You should have a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges amidst the context of rapid change within the University and HE sector as a whole.

Applicants must hold a good honours degree, a PhD, have relevant management experience and possess a collaborative / engaging leadership style. Key responsibilities will include; developing networks and partnerships, effectively managing the staff in the school alongside the Head of School and three operational academic Leads and taking shared responsibility for the operations and performance of the school. This will involve leading the development and delivery of an academically and financially sustainable portfolio of under-graduate and postgraduate courses, leading the development of a research and enterprise culture and expanding national and international partnerships. The successful candidate should therefore demonstrate an awareness of current developments in higher education.
