External Examiner – Social Work

Opening Date:
9 Dec 2022
Closing Date:
20 Dec 2022
Salary Range:

The School of Healthcare is looking for an external examiner for its full-time, pre-registration MA and BA Social Work programmes. The appointment will be with immediate effect.

Both courses are established programmes within the school. We are part of a Teaching Partnership with Leeds Beckett University, Wakefield and Leeds Local Authorities. This partnership has been developed over a number of years and is well-established and successful.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experience academic staff, who hold current registration as a social worker. Previous experience of acting in the role of external examiner is desirable but not essential.

The tenure of appointment is for four years. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The successful candidate will have access to an on-line training course to familiarise themselves with the role at Leeds and have the opportunity to meet the teaching team; additional support is available for those who have not undertaken the role before.

There is a two tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.

The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please send an expression of interest and detailed Curriculum Vitae outlining your employment history, qualifications, teaching experience and research/scholarly activities, registration number and any previous external examining activity (if applicable) to Iain Moody i.j.moody@leeds.ac.uk by 20 December 2022.

You are most welcome to contact Iain as above for an informal discussion or further details.
