The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified academic to act as External Examiner for the BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practitioner Community Nursing in the Home and Post Graduate Diploma Community Specialist Practitioner Community Nursing in the Home.

The programme sits within the School of Community Health and Midwifery which provides contemporary and relevant programmes to registered nurses and registered health and social care professionals at various levels, seeking to ensure that all meet the needs of stakeholders and regulators. The BSc (Hons) and PGDip in Community Specialist Practitioner, Community Nursing in the Home are full-time courses leading to registration as a Community Specialist Practitioner in District Nursing with the NMC.

The course has one point of entry per academic year, in September and operates on a semester calendar. Examination boards are in August and September. Due to the tenure completion of our current External Examiners, we have a vacancy to appoint a new External Examiner for the 2023-24 academic year. The newly appointed examiner will be responsible for a range of modules within the programmes and will be required to sit on module and progression & award examination boards. The tenure period will also include revalidation in line with newly published NMC post registration standards for the BSc (Hons) and PGDip in Community Specialist Practitioner, Community Nursing in the Home and External Examiner input will be required in that process.

Applications are sought from academics registered with the NMC and holding a degree qualification. Experience of external examining is not essential, and induction will be offered. The first appointment starts in the academic year 2023-24 for a four-year term. The successful applicant must be registered on the appropriate part of the NMC register and have relevant experience of working in Community Nursing as well as teaching on Community Nursing programmes. He/she will work with our existing External Examiners to review a number of modules within the Community Specialist Practitioner programmes, this will include modules delivered at both level 6 and level 7, with some of the modules shared between pathways. The External Examiner will be expected to attend the programme assessment board, consider student work, and contribute to the overall assessment process.

The appointment will be with effect from 1st September 2023 and will be for a period of four years.
