We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset.

The School

Nursing and Medical Science is a core component within the School of Science, Technology & Health, alongside other provision in Allied Health, Sport and Computing. The school offers apprenticeships; undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (both research and taught), as well as a developing CPD Advanced Practice offer and ambitious expansion plans supported by significant investment in a recently opened clinical simulation suite.

Nursing and Medical Science is comprised of the growing disciplinary areas of Nursing (Adult and Mental Health fields) and Biomedical Science. Biomedical science is highly regarded and holds both RSB and IBMS accreditation, whilst nursing is a relatively recent addition to the YSJ portfolio but fundamental to the institution’s strategic plans. These disciplinary areas boast excellent regional connections alongside a welcoming and inclusive teaching and learning ethos.

We are seeking a talented and able academic to lead Nursing and Medical Science in the next phase of its development. For the right person, this is a rare and exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and motivated team and make a significant contribution to healthcare provision in the region.

The role holder will have principal responsibility for leading the disciplinary areas and will hold line management responsibility for staff across the disciplines; they will become a member of the School Academic Leadership Team, and contribute to the overall strategic development of the school.

Importantly, they will share our commitment to social justice and be fully committed to providing inclusive educational experiences that improve the lives of our students and the wider communities in which they practice. The ideal candidate will be a team player who inspires colleagues and leads them with integrity; they will be research active, and a creative and able teacher.

Whilst a doctoral level qualification is desirable, it is essential that candidates can demonstrate professional excellence and continuous professional development in their discipline.
