The Robert Gordon University are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and qualified External Examiner whose responsibilities will primarily focus on the pre-registration BSc and BSc (Honours) courses. Potential applicants will have a recognised Nursing qualification and be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on the nursing part of the register. The university criteria for the appointment of external examiners are: (i) An external examiner’s academic and/or professional qualifications shall be appropriate both in terms of the level and the subject(s) of such qualifications to match the general requirement of the assessed subject(s). (ii) An external examiner shall have appropriate standing, expertise and experience in their subject or discipline to ensure the maintenance of academic standards; such standards shall reflect the general expectations of higher education relative to national standards for the particular subject or discipline. (iii) An external examiner shall normally have recent examining or academically comparable experience which shall be adequate to the requirements of the subject area to be examined. The Department of Health Sciences at the University of York is a large and multidisciplinary department, offering a broad range of educational programmes in the health and social care field. We are seeking to appoint an external examiner for the Department’s taught postgraduate programmes (MSc Health Research, Master of Public Health, MSc Mental Health Research & PGCert Health Research & Statistics), with specific responsibility for shared modules focusing on statistics and epidemiology. External examiners are required to review and evaluate assessment marking; be a member of the Board of Examiners and attend meetings; comment and give advice on programme content, balance and structure; and to complete an annual report as part of the University of York’s quality assurance mechanisms. As part of this process the external reviewer will be required to review the validation documents and provide a written response prior to event. The validation event will be held online.
