Strategic Policy Groups

Strategic Policy Groups are member-led forums that focus on the key priorities set out in the Council 2025 strategy. They meet throughout the year and have elected chairs who facilitate their work including developing policy positions, responding to calls for evidence and feeding into briefings and reports. There is no firm cap on numbers but we try to keep the SPGs at around 20 people to ensure coherence. If you are interested in engaging with a particular SPG do get in touch with the assigned policy officer.

The current SPG Groups are:

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Working to make healthcare and healthcare education open to all across the country, combatting discrimination and extending opportunity to people of all backgrounds for workforce that better represents the country it serves.

Pedagogy and Innovation

Fostering innovation and new technologies to increase the quality and quantity of future healthcare professionals with a particular focus on simulated learning and digital approaches to pedagogy and improved ways of teaching.

Regulation

Promoting a more agile and competency-based approach to regulation including embracing Brexit opportunities to move beyond the EU Nursing Directive for nursing and midwives and ensuring HE and FE regulation is proportionate and up to date.

Research

Highlighting the value and importance of nursing, midwifery, and AHP research and research roles in tackling real life health challenges and inequalities as well as increasing research capacity and capability for our members.
