Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.

Do you have an established background in teaching and research relating to statistics, trial design, data analytics and/or health economics? Do you want to play a key role in establishing Bournemouth University as a world leading centre of excellence in health and care research?

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is currently undergoing a period of expansion, and we are looking for both a Professor (an appointment to Associate Professor will also be considered) and a Principal Academic to enhance our teaching and research. These roles will provide high quality statistical (or health economics) input into all aspects of clinical trials and related work within the Faculty and our local NHS and industry partners. The remit will also include the adoption of new methodologies to support the deployment of digital / assistive technologies.

To succeed in the roles, you will have a PhD in medical statistics or health economics or a closely related field. You will also have a very good understanding of advanced statistical methods (or modelling resource utilization) used in medical / technological research. You should have a strong interest in innovative methodologies (e.g. methods for causal inference from observational studies) and applied multidisciplinary health and care research (e.g. quality improvement methods). For those who want to apply for the Professorial role you will need to demonstrate a proven track record in leadership, a substantial body of impactful peer reviewed publications and a significant portfolio of externally funded work.

There is an expectation that the individuals appointed to both roles will support the activities with the new and emerging Dorset CTU. In addition, there will be an expectation that the Professor will provide mentorship to an enthusiastic collective of career young researchers within the Faculty and supervise PhD students.
