The Wallscourt Professor in Health Technology and Life Sciences at UWE Bristol is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional individual to lead cross-disciplinary research and innovation and contribute to the delivery of teaching and learning in health technology and biological sciences areas.
This post is newly established through the University’s strategic investment in excellence in research and innovation to support UWE Strategy 2030. The role is part-funded by the Wallscourt Foundation, a charitable foundation with historic links to UWE Bristol, along with investment by the University.
The role relates directly to UWE Bristol’s Beacon Research Themes which are aligned with the priorities of UK Research and Innovation; the Government’s Industrial Strategy; and the University’s own research ambitions.
Our vision is to create critical mass and expertise in Health Technology and Life Sciences in its broadest sense, encompassing genomics, drug development, new treatments, diagnostics, living aids, healthy ageing and other. The post holder will be expected to drive cross-disciplinary and challenge-focused collaboration across all the Faculty’s Departments and Research Centres, with colleagues in other Faculties.
This is a full-time, permanent academic position, based in the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, HAS (https://www1.uwe.ac.uk/hls/). It is a cross-Faculty position, although for practical purposes the post-holder will be based in the most appropriate of the Faculty’s four Departments: Allied Health Professions, Applied Sciences, Health and Social Sciences or Nursing and Midwifery, all of which have substantial research and teaching programmes in health-related areas. For an initial three-year period your time will be devoted primarily to research with some contribution to teaching and learning. In subsequent years you will be expected to develop a range of activities including externally-funded research and teaching and learning.
