The School is seeking to appoint an external examiner to its Maternal, Child and Family Health Programmes (SCQF Level 7 – 11) Progression and Awards Board (PAB). This PAB considers the following programmes:
•Certificate of Higher Education Maternity Care Support Worker
•BSc Midwifery/ MSc Midwifery (both pre-registration)
•Graduate Certificate in Neonatal Nursing
•Postgraduate Certificate in Child Protection
•MSc Maternal & Child Health (formerly MSc Midwifery)
•MSc Maternal & Child Health (Advanced Neonatal Practice)
•MSc Maternal & Child Health (Advanced Paediatric Practice)
•MSc Health Studies (Family Health)
•Return to Practice Midwifery
•Midwifery Supervision Levels 9 – 11
Normally there are 3 PABs per academic session. Their function is to review the performance of students on a programme of study and to determine the students’ eligibility to progress or gain an award from the University.
The overall responsibility of a PAB external examiner therefore is to ensure that each candidate for a particular award is considered impartially and fairly in accordance with University regulations and guidance and that the standards of the University’s awards are maintained. The role is not subject specific, but does require understanding of University and professional requirements of specific programmes. Full details of the programmes will be provided to appointees and an induction day will be held by the University following appointment. UWS policy for external examiners is available at http://www.uws.ac.uk/schoolsdepts/qeu/examiners.asp.
Experienced and new external examiners will be considered provided the applicant has the relevant professional qualifications and experience. Registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse and with a valid teaching qualification is essential.
The appointments will be from 1st October 2014 for a 4-year term.
