Main duties/responsibilities:

You will be required to line manage academic staff within the area. It will require you to convene & chair meetings, appraise staff within the area and identify staffing needs of the subject group and advising on the utilisation of resources related to teaching and research. You must also allocate the duties for all staff directly managed including managing staff fairly and objectively in accordance with the University’s employment policies and procedures. You will be expected to assist the Head of Dept in the development, academic control, quality and standards of the portfolio of programmes. In addition to this you will serve as a full member of the relevant Programme Board of Examiners and as chair of Module Boards if so, appointed by the Dean of School. You will also work with the relevant Associate Deans in support of their aspect of responsibility in the School. Through regular practitioner activity you will be expected to maintain experience in academic delivery across teaching, research or enterprise at a minimum equivalent to 0.2fte which may include being a module lead.

In addition to this you will have profession specific duties, which will include the following: to liaise with the professional body, regulator, practice partners and other stakeholders as appropriate; advise on strategic developments in their profession e.g. currency of curricula, and the appropriate learning environments including practice placements; and ensure that staff maintain their registration with the appropriate regulator.

Skills & Experience:

You will need a broad experience of physiotherapy practice, demonstrating a sustained interest and knowledge of contemporary issues and experience of partnership working with key stakeholders, commissioners and provider organisations. You will be expected to understand and have experience of working in the higher education sector and its political, national and international context. With regards to higher education you will be required to have a philosophy of teaching and learning and advancement through research in harmony with the government, higher education sector, NHS and professional body strategies.

You will need expertise within physiotherapy practice as well as experience of chairing programme and/or other committees.
