The vision of the Department of Nursing Science is to provide high-quality education and research that supports excellence in practice to the benefit of all those who access healthcare, nationally and globally. The department is a supportive and vibrant community of staff, practitioners, students, and service users who work in partnership. The department prepares nursing students from three fields of nursing at undergraduate and two at postgraduate level. The department also delivers CPD to already qualified health professionals. As Principal Academic you will be expected to meet the BU 2025 fusion agenda of Research, Education and Professional practice in line with the University’s strategic plan and strategic investment areas. A registrant of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Mental Health Nursing, you will be an innovative and enthusiastic individual who is a good networker and collaborator, with proven leadership skills.

As an expert in your field, you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the leadership and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate Mental Health Nursing programmes, You will have a strong track record in implementing educational development, innovation and quality assurance and be research active with an established body of published work. Additionally, you will be able to clearly show your ability to create and disseminate knowledge leading to research outputs through an established track record of Research and Knowledge Exchange bids. Lastly, you will be able to demonstrate an established contribution to professional practice in Mental Health Nursing through engagement and thought leadership with health care practice and professional bodies.

You will be qualified to Doctoral level or be able to demonstrate the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of 3-5 years from date of appointment. You will be research active and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
