NMC Test of Competence (Overseas Programmes) – opportunities for question and OSCE writers

Opening Date:
19 Dec 2019
Closing Date:
31 Jan 2020
Salary Range:

AlphaPlus and the University of Nottingham have been appointed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to develop the new test of competence for individuals who have trained as a nurse outside the EU/EEA and are applying to register as a nurse or midwife in the UK.

The test of competence comprises two elements. The first is a computer-based test which comprises a number of multiple-choice questions designed to assess applicants’ theoretical knowledge and understanding. The second element is the objective structured clinical examination (the ‘OSCE’) which is a practical assessment of applicants’ practical skills and knowledge.

The new test of competence will be based on the standards of proficiency for registered nurses which come into effect on 28 January 2019. These standards can be found here: https://www.nmc.org.uk/standards/standards-for-nurses/standards-of-proficiency-for-registered-nurses/

We are looking for suitably experienced individuals who would be able to develop multiple choice questions, or to develop OSCEs as part of the tests of competence. We are particularly looking for those interested in working on OSCEs.

The day rate is £320 per day. Training on the requirements will be provided; you will be paid for one training day and one “getting up to speed” day as part of your work package. Work packages can be flexible to allow for your availability to work. These are not full-time posts, the work will be home-based.

The project will involve working closely with colleagues from the University of Nottingham, but also with delivery partners in the University of Northampton, Ulster University, and Oxford Brookes University. The clinical lead on OSCE development is Penny Howard from the University of Nottingham https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/healthsciences/people/penny.howard

To register your interest, please contact Tom Hooley, Tom.hooley@alphaplus.co.uk with a CV and a paragraph of text summarising your relevant experience. If you have colleagues who would be interested, please do feel free to forward this email to them.
