We are seeking a Lecturer in Adult Nursing with an interest in innovative teaching of advanced practice to join the School of Nursing, part of the Institute of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical and Dental Sciences. Birmingham has a long history of providing graduate nursing programmes, consistently ranked in the top 10 of UK providers and enjoying a period of sustained growth. Nursing is an important part of the College’s multidisciplinary health professional educational portfolio including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biomedical sciences and proposed for 2021 midwifery. Our nursing programmes are delivered in partnership with internationally renowned NHS trusts, and health and social care providers across Birmingham and Solihull. Student learning is enriched by the leading edge research undertaken at the University of Birmingham in the School relating to risk, abuse and violence (RAV) and end of life. The School is looking for candidates with an emerging research profile.
The post holder will work closely with programme directors, module leaders and academic staff delivering our pre-registration nursing (adult, child, and mental health) portfolio. We are particularly interested in recruiting a candidate with an interest in innovative teaching of advanced practice aspects of the curriculum. Your role will also include teaching and supporting students in academic and clinical environments, integrating digitally enhanced learning, and working closely with our practice partners to ensure an exceptional student experience. We would expect the post holder to contribute to scholarship and/or research.
The post holder will be accountable to the Head of School of Nursing and will report to the Adult Field Lead and work closely with the Head of Education, and Programme Directors for the undergraduate (BNurs/MNurs) and Master of Nursing programmes.
This post is offered on a Teaching Focused (TF) or Teaching/Research (T/R) basis. The post holder must hold a current NMC registration as registered nurse (adult). A dual qualification in another field of nursing is desirable or experience in an advanced practice role. Normally, applicants should hold a bachelor and higher degree in a subject relevant to nursing or cognate discipline, usually have completed (T/R), or are completing a PhD or equivalent qualification. Hold or willing to undertake postgraduate award in health professions education/Fellowship of Higher Education Academy
Applicants should have a proven ability to devise, advise on, and manage learning and research or scholarship. Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels and extensive teaching experience and research/scholarship within subject specialism.
Candidates with an emerging research profile including a PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification and research outputs will be considered for appointment as Lecturer (Grade 8) Research/Teaching focused.
