The University is seeking to appoint a Head for the School of Nursing and Midwifery to provide bold and strategic leadership to the School. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, the Head of School role will be primarily responsible for formulating and operationalising academic strategy, ensuring appropriate plans and resources are in place for their delivery. This is a truly exciting time to lead the School of Nursing and Midwifery, building on its existing strengths and developing new and innovative ways of taking the School forward.

The Faculty of Health make up 42% of the University and has amongst the broadest range of health and social care professional education in the UK, with 4,500 professionals in training at any time across 60 programmes in six schools integrated into a single Faculty delivering excellence in health and care education, research, and innovation.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery has a long-established record of delivering high quality learning, teaching and research, with an extensive portfolio of undergraduate nursing programmes including Adult, Mental Health, and Child at BSc and MSc levels. These are delivered over three sites in Truro, Plymouth and Exeter and we collaborate and work closely and strategically with our NHS partners throughout the peninsula.

The successful applicant, already an established professor and leader in their field, will have considerable academic and personal credibility in a relevant discipline, as well as a commitment to working collaboratively and in partnership with staff and students across the School, the Faculty, and more widely. You will bring with you strong leadership and management experience and an ability to engage staff, peers and students as you work collaboratively to deliver results, navigating and leading others through change. You will have a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges amidst a context of rapid change within the University and HE sector as a whole, which will be critical to the success of the School.

We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. Staff appointed within the Faculty of Health may also be able to join the NHS pension scheme subject to eligibility criteria. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. A relocation package may be available with this role.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week, the role will be for five years initially, with the potential to extend for a further two years, at which point the successful candidate will move to an appropriate substantive post.

Continued research and teaching activity is assumed in line with the role holder’s substantive academic post and as agreed with the Executive Dean upon appointment.
