The College of Human and Health Sciences is seeking to appoint an external examiner to the Graduate/ Post Graduate Certificate in Blood Component transfusion programme. This All Wales programme is designed to prepare experienced non-medical health care practitioners to make the clinical decision and provide the written instruction for blood component transfusion for patients within their own clinical speciality, and within their own areas of competence and expertise.
The programme is open to nurses, midwives and registered pharmacists and runs over one academic year. It comprises one theoretical module and one work base learning module and is jointly delivered by a clinical teaching team and staff from the college.
The appointment will be required for 4 years in the first instance.
Please note that we are not able to accept applications at this time from staff based in: North London Blood Centre.
The external examiner is asked to look at a sample of the assessments and report on:
- the administration of the programme
- the standards and consistency of internal marking and feedback
- the standards of student performance
- the extent to which the regulations and processes of the University are correctly applied and adhered to
- whether the academic standards of the programme are appropriate
- examples of good practice identified
You would be asked to attend one examination board per year and submit an annual report following this.
Essential Criteria: Clinical haematologist with connections to an educational institute
Experience of delivering academic programmes
Previous experience as an external examiner
Date of appointment: Immediate – September 2019
