The newly formed School of Allied Health Professions at the University of Leicester is seeking to appoint an external examiner for its first innovative 4-year Undergraduate Master in Science Midwifery with Leadership programme which commenced in 2018. The external examiner will contribute to the assessment process, review and report on student course work, attend the Board of Examiners and submit an annual report.
The University of Leicester’s criteria for appointing external examiners include demonstrating the following:
a) knowledge and understanding of UK sector agreed reference points for the maintenance of academic standards and assurance and enhancement of quality
b) relevant academic and professional qualifications to at least a Masters degree and a midwife with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration
c) competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks and procedures appropriate to midwifery and related subjects
d) familiarity with the standard expected of students to achieve the award that is to be assessed
e) awareness of current developments in the design and delivery of midwifery curricula
Previous experience is an advantage and there are comprehensive online training resources for all new external examiners on the Leicester Learning Institute website. Further support will be provided at School level.
