The University of Derby and the University of Derby Online (UDOL) is seeking to appoint a new shared external examiner to oversee its CPD provision for the Mentoring in Practice module (6NU513/6NU528).
This module is currently provided at undergraduate level 6, but is being developed to be delivered at postgraduate level 7 in the next academic year. With at least 6 campus-based intakes per year (September, March and May) this flagship module is delivered across two campuses (Derby & Chesterfield) and online through the University of Derby Online Learning.
We see External Examiners as a key element of quality assurance and enhancement. The principal responsibilities of our External Examiners include providing informative comment and recommendations upon whether or not the University is maintaining academic standards, comparing student performance with that of students on similar types of programme at UK Higher Education Institutions and assisting in ensuring the assessment process measures student achievement rigorously and fairly against the intended outcomes of the programme.
The start date for this appointment will be September 2015. The University appointments for external examiners are normally for a period of 4 years.
- Working in a UK HEI with knowledge of assessment frameworks;
- No formal educational links with the University of Derby in the last 5 years;
- Familiarity with the mentorship framework;
- Masters Degree in a related area (or working towards);
- Experience of esubmission.
- Research and publications in a related area;
- Previous external examining experience.
Appointments will be made in line with the University of Derby’s policy for External Examiners.
