External Examiner – Support for Learning in Practice and Accreditation of Prior Learning

Opening Date:
9 Oct 2017
Closing Date:
24 Oct 2017
Salary Range:

The School of Healthcare is seeking to appoint an external examiner to examine its Support for Learning in Practice (SLiP) modules and provide external scrutiny to its accreditation of prior learning processes. The SLiP modules meet the requirements of the NMC Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice (2006) and are multidisciplinary. The School’s accreditation of prior learning processes include consideration of applications for accreditation of prior certificated and experiential learning, credit transfer and non-standard entry.

The person appointed should be registered with the NMC and will normally hold a higher degree at Masters level or above with appropriate expertise in practice-based learning. Previous experience of acting in the role of external examiner is desirable, but not essential.

All external examiners are required to attend at least one meeting of the School Progression and Award Board per year and to be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues. The School uses GradeMark to mark most assignments and for these the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line. The School holds an annual induction event for new external examiners to familiarise them with the University’s assessment process and to enable them to meet the programme team.

The appointment is for one year in the first instance with the possibility of a further extension.
