External Examiner – Pre-Registration Nursing (Mental Health)

The School of Health and Life Sciences is seeking to appoint a subject external examiner to cover a range of modules within our pre-registration BSc Mental Health Nursing programme. The remit involves external moderation of theory and practice learning modules relating to:

  • NURS07002 First Steps to Nursing
  • NURS07026 Foundations of Health
  • NURS07027 PLE 1.2 Mental Health
  • NURS08047 Care of Vulnerable People
  • NURS08048 Nursing for Recovery
  • NURS08049 PLE 2.2 Mental Health
  • NURS08050 PLE 2.3 Mental Health
  • NURS08051 Skills in Mental Health Nursing

External examiner responsibilities include moderation of assessments, completion of an annual monitoring report and attendance at subject panels where student marks are ratified. A schedule of subject panels per academic session will be made available. The School uses an electronic marking system associated with the originality checking programme Turnitin, called Grademark. External examiners are required to make use of the system during the external moderation process (this being accessible through Moodle Virtual Learning Environment).

Experienced and new external examiners will be considered provided the applicant has the relevant professional qualification(s) and experience. Relevant professional registration and experience in the field of mental health and a valid teaching qualification are essential requirements for this post.

The appointment will be with effect from January 2019 to 30 September 2022.

Full details of the programmes and modules will be provided to appointees and an induction day will be held by the University following appointment.
