University of the West of England, Bristol, Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, is seeking to appoint an external examiner to modules and programmes within its Pre-registration Nursing programme:
- Reference PR01/ 18 Learning Disability
The successful applicant would be appointed from Oct 2018 for four years. Experience as an external examiner is preferred but applications will be accepted from individuals new to the examining role who are responsible for delivery of pre-reg programmes or modules in their own institution.
- Current NMC registration in the Learning Disability field
- Registered Nurse Teacher
- Experience of grading in practice
Appointments are subject to meeting the University’s criteria for the appointment of external examiners.
We are unable to accept applications from the Universities of South Wales, Hertfordshire, or Cardiff.
Venue for delivery: UWE was awarded the contract for delivery of the Learning Disability nursing programme in the South West inc. Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset. The programme is delivered through blended learning and face to face.

Tenure: 4 years to September 2021
Field (exam / module) Boards – Feb, June, July & Nov (subject to change).
We expect External Examiners would be able to attend at least 2 out of 4 boards.
Award and Progression boards: The external examiner will also have responsibility for the award and will be expected to attend one out of three award boards each year. These run in Feb, June, and July (subject to change).
Fee: £675 per annum plus accommodation & travel
The External Examiner is required to submit an annual report, following which payment is made.
