Northumbria University, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences are seeking to appoint an external examiner for our Pre-registration Midwifery Programmes (module allocations will be across the BSc (Hons) and PgDip programmes). Modules are allocated between two external examiners.
An innovative new curriculum was implemented from September 2017 based on Mary Renfrew’s, ‘Framework for Quality Maternal and Newborn Care’. This has resulted in novel approaches to teaching and assessment strategies; including a continued strong inter-professional learning theme.
We link with four NHS Trusts across a wide geographical area, which the External Examiner visits on an annual rotating basis, to meet senior staff, mentors and students in practice.
The appointment will take effect from 1 August 2018 for a four-year tenure.
We are looking for someone:
- who is suitably qualified with expertise in the above areas, ideally a Programme Leader or Senior Lecturer on similar programmes
- Previous experience as an external examiner is strongly preferred.
- You will be required to view a selection of scripts/videos for designated modules and complete a module external examiner report for each set of assignments reviewed. The majority of assessments can be reviewed remotely via our electronic learning platform.
- The Exam board will meet once a year, an annual report is required.
If you are interested in applying for this role (or to request further information), please send a recent CV to Vivien Perry, Programme Lead.
