The School of Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work & Social Sciences is seeking an external examiner for the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. The primary aim of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) is to provide a route for University of Salford staff to achieve an accredited qualification in teaching in higher education and recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. As well as being accredited by the HEA the programme also contributes towards accreditation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for participants who meet additional criteria.
Role Specification: The role of the external examiner is to make a key contribution to the programme’s academic quality assurance through verification of assessment briefs, moderation of summative assessments, the submission of an annual report, attendance at two boards of examiners meetings (typically in March and June) and ongoing discussions with the programme team.
The external examiner is asked to look at a sample of the assessments and report on:
- the administration of the programme
- the standards and consistency of internal marking
- the standards of student performance
- the extent to which the regulations and processes of the University are correctly applied and adhered to
- whether the academic standards of the programme are appropriate
- examples of good practice identified
Experience of academic practice programmes
Current NMC registration on the appropriate part of the register
Desirable Criteria: Previous experience as an external examiner
