The School of Health and Social Care at the University of Lincoln is seeking an experienced External Examiner for our Mental Health pre-registration nursing programmes. The curriculum has been developed from the Standards of proficiency for registered nurses, education and training (NMC 2018). The successful applicant will be responsible for reviewing 30 credit modules.

Level 4 (academic year 2020/21 onwards):
Holistic person centred Mental Health nursing care (Mental health field specific)
Fundamental nursing care
Nursing and the inter professional team
Personal development and resilience

BSc(Hons) Nursing with Registered Nurse Mental Health

The successful applicant will be responsible for reviewing the final presentation of 30 credit modules as follows:

Level 5 Modules (academic year 2019/20):
Recovery focused care in mental health
Engaging with Mental Health Nursing Practice 2A- Promoting ethical practice
Engaging with Mental Health Nursing Practice 2B- History taking and assessment

Level 6 Modules (2019/20 and 2020/21):
Complex care for Mental Health Nursing
Impacting on Mental Health Nursing Practice 3A – Improving and Transforming Practice
Impacting on Mental Health Nursing Practice 3B – Managing and Leading Complex Care
Innovation to Transformation in Nursing Practice

External Examiners play a central role in the maintenance of the standards of the University’s awards and the currency of the curriculum. They perform this role through the:

  • approval of assessment tasks and examination papers
  • discussions with relevant academic staff
  • review samples of student work on modules, including practice documents / visits
  • endorsement and confirmation of marks to confirm agreed, fully moderated and externally examined set of results
  • submission of annual reports
  • attendance at appropriate boards of examiners
  • agreement to programme modifications

Ideal applicants should possess the following:

  • NMC: Current registration (Mental Health) and recordable teaching qualification
  • Relevant experience and expertise to maintain comparable quality standard
