External Examiner – MSc Nursing (Adult Pathway)

The School of Healthcare is seeking an external examiner for its Masters pre-registration nursing programme. This is a full time programme with a variable student intake between 10 and 30.

Further programme/module details and documentation will be provided together with a briefing session on appointment. The role includes a number of field specific modules and some responsibility for cross nursing modules.

The appointment will be for one year in the first instance with the possibility of extending for a further 3 year term and will commence from academic year 2014-2015. All appointments will be subject to approval by the University Faculty Taught Student Education Committee.

The University of Leeds requires external examiners to be:

i) a registered adult nurse
ii) have an NMC recordable teaching qualification
iii) hold a higher degree at Masters level
iv) work within a Higher Education Institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of accomplishment in publishing and scholarly activity and previous external examiner experience.

All external examiners are required to be present at School Board of Examiners’ meetings for the above programme (at least one per year and preferably the September board), and also are required to be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues. For further details please visit

The School uses GradeMark to mark some assignments and for these the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
