The Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport are seeking to appoint an External Examiner for the MSc Advancing Practice programme. This is specifically for, but not limited to, modules relating to advanced clinical assessment and examination, diagnosis and decision making in primary care and non-medical prescribing, all of which are practice focused modules on the programme. Note that external examination of several of these modules is required at both SCQF levels 9 and 11.

The content of the programme is reflective of contemporary healthcare and the needs of practitioners.

Further information on the programme is available at: https://www.stir.ac.uk/courses/pg-taught/health-sciences-sport/advancing-practice/

As an External Examiner you are required to:

  • Monitor the quality of the programme
  • Externally moderate assessed work
  • Attend Examination Boards
  • Complete an annual report
  • Comment on proposed programme modifications and developments.

Applicants should be suitably qualified academics. A requirement for NMC approved programmes, Non-Medical Prescribing, is that external examiners demonstrate currency in education and practice, and have due regard to the programmes within their portfolio. It would be desirable to have previous experience as an External Examiner, but this is not essential. The Non-Medical prescribing element of the programme is currently being re-designed in light of the publication of the new NMC (2018) Standards for Prescribing Programmes.

All External Examiner appointments are subject to approval by the University’s Academic Council.

If you are interested in applying, please submit a detailed CV to: Aprill Smith, Graduate & Professional Studies Officer, Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport, University of Stirling. Email: fhss.pg.cpd.team@stir.ac.uk.

If you require further information please email Aprill Smith, as above, who will forward your query to the appropriate member of staff.
