The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare is seeking to appoint two (2) external examiners for the following course: Master of Public Health (MPH) – 2 Posts
There is an average of 110 students on the MPH distributed between 3 cohorts all based at our Brentford Campus. Each cohort is expected to complete 8 modules and review of the assessments will be split between the two external examiners, so that each examiner covers 12 modules on average every year.
The assessment boards are all held online monthly with external examiners attending on 3 occasions only (one attendance for each cohort). The dates for these 3 board meetings are set out at the beginning of each academic year. Applications are now invited from suitably qualified and experienced lecturers in Public Health for academic year 2024-15 onwards to review these modules:
- Public Health and Health Systems
- Global Public Health Challenges
- Epidemiology and Biostatistics
- Research Methods for Public Health
- Leadership and Management for Public Health
- Health Policy and Principles
- MPH Dissertation
- Nutrition in Public Health
- Public Health Economics
- Gender, Health and Development
- Ageing populations and public health
The appointments are subject to candidates meeting the University’s criteria for appointment, and tenure will normally be for a period of four years.
As an External Examiner you will be expected to:
- Be employed in Higher Education
- Available to assume role in January 2025
- Scrutinize samples of examination/essay scripts and other assessed materials, advising module assessment boards on the content and standard of assessments verbally and in writing.
- Attend a minimum of 2 assessment boards a year online.
- Attend the Field Reviews as necessary.
- Review new modules in preparation for validation events.
- Advise on academic misconduct and appeal cases.
- Submit an annual report to the University Quality Boards.
- Keep in close communication with the module leader on availability and any issues with modules, module marking and external examining.
