The Foundation Degree in Health and Care has been created in partnership with the local NHS Trusts to enable experienced Health Care Assistants and Support Workers to gain the necessary underpinning knowledge and skills via an Apprenticeship to become Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate. There will be two cohorts (September/April) each year with 20-30 students per cohort. A sample of work is examined on a termly basis; this will be made available to the External Examiner via our online virtual learning environment. There will be three Exam Boards each year (Feb / May / Aug) that the external examiner will be required to attend and one resit exam board where the examiner participates via conference call (June).
The External Examiner must have a BSc or higher in a health related subject along with professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a registered Nurse. In addition, experience of Foundation Degrees and work-based learning is desirable.
