The College of Human and Health Sciences at Swansea University is seeking to appoint an external examiner for the Certificate of Higher Education in Health Care Studies.

This modular certificate is designed to enable Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) to complete a recognised formal level four (CQFW4) qualification in keeping with the current Welsh Government initiative ‘Developing Excellence in Healthcare’ for a skills and career framework for HCSW’s. It is anticipated that these educational opportunities will enable HCSW’s to develop personally and professionally and may make them eligible for consideration for promotion to a higher band within the Knowledge and Skills Framework operating in the NHS or eligibility to apply for Pre-registration Nursing.

Level four modules that contribute to the programme are:

  • An Introduction to Health Care Practice
  • Introduction to Health Sciences
  • Clinical Decision Making for Support Workers
  • Consolidating Practice

The successful applicant will be asked to attend one examination board per year and submit an annual report following this. External examiners are also required to provide comments on proposed modifications and the development of new modules within their area of expertise.

Essential Criteria:
Experience of delivering relevant programmes at HE level

Current NMC registration on the appropriate part of the register

Desirable Criteria:
Previous experience as an external examiner
